There be only a few similarities surrounded by Afternoons, by Philip Larkin, and Churning Day, by Seamus Heaney. These feature mainly in the building of the devil metrical compositions. This i s used as a poesy scheme, not only to keep the poem flux but also to add a sense of monotony that direct prevails in the womens lives. It is clear that it is a happy memory for Heaney as he can remember so much of it, and although he remembers the acrid stench of the house after steamed day, he talks of the butter as gold flecks and coagulated su! nlight, which are scenic and fond memories.
