Life is like an ocean
The ocean. This is the object/place that I could compare with my life. Life is unpredictable and there are also waves like the ocean. There are calm days and there are rough days. Sometimes it's warm and inviting, but sometimes it's cold and scary. The ocean is deep and there is much to explore. And also is life. There are so many things to explore, but we can only experience all this things if we go inside it.Every mime you go inside it, you learn new things and this things could make you grow up and can teach you some things. Some of us are afraid of what will happen because we don't know what's next. ââ¬Å"What if I can't? What if I fail? What if they laugh at me? What if I get hurt? â⬠This questions are some of those hindrance of solving our challenges in life. We should not overreact and all we have to do is Just think about It.If we make the bad decision then we should not blame others, we must need to sail gain through the rough parts of it until we already achieve it. It can pull us under, but we can still rise if we really want that our dreams will come true. My life can be compared to ocean. It's always moving, and having ups and downs, long, and big. We also meet different creatures while exploring that can help us. Even if it is full of problems, we should still enjoy It. Life Is an ocean of experiences. You should dive right In!

“A Celebration of Grandfathers”
1. In ââ¬Å"A Celebration of Grandfathers,â⬠the author writes that respect for elders is ââ¬Å"a cultural value to be passed on from generation to generation.â⬠What does he say the elders could teach young people? Use evidence from the text to explain your answer.Anaya states that elders can teach young people to live ââ¬Å"authentic lives.â⬠By this he means lives that have meaning and purpose achieved through hard work, faith, and a sense of community. Anaya states, ââ¬Å"They learned that to survive one had to share in the process of life,â⬠and that means sharing in the good and the bad. Anaya compares the eyes of the older generation to windows that ââ¬Å"peer into a distant past,â⬠and have a knowledge and spirit that comes from an understanding of the earth with which younger generations have lost touch.2. Anaya recalls an incident where his grandfather tells him, ââ¬Å"Know where you stand.â⬠What did his grandfather mean literally? What did he mean figuratively?Anayaââ¬â¢s grandfather says this to Anaya when he comes home as a young boy having been badly bitten by ants while working out in the fields. Literally, Grandfather means ââ¬Å"watch where you are going/standing,â⬠or ââ¬Å"pay better attention.â⬠Figuratively, Grandfather means this in a more philosophical sense; he is telling young Anaya to learn to pay attention to the world around him so that he can avoid danger. Specifically, he means to pay attention to the Earth (nature) because, unless you show it respect, it can become unfriendly. Even natureââ¬â¢s tiny ants can become hostile and, when working as a community, can become threatening.3. The title of this memoir is ââ¬Å"A Celebration of Grandfathers,â⬠not ââ¬Å"A Celebration of My Grandfather.â⬠Why do you think Anaya made this distinction? In this memoir, Anaya is celebrating the ââ¬Å"elders,â⬠which include all older generations and all future generations that will one day be old. Anaya uses his own grandfather as an example. By relaying his personal experiences with his grandfather, Anaya shows examples of what the elders can pass on to younger generations. This piece is intended as a celebration of all older generations (grandfathers and grandmothers) and the cultural values they passed on.4. How doesà Anaya's grandfather help him cope with the death of his young friend? When a young boy is dragged to his death by a horse, young Anaya is upset that death came to someone so young. To help him understand the process of death as a function of life, Anaya's grandfather explains death through images of nature and the changing of seasons. These are common and comforting images that a young Anaya can relate to. Grandfather explains death as a resting period before blooming again, a ââ¬Å"small transformation in lifeâ⬠rather than a permanent unknown.5. The author states that ââ¬Å"They [ancianos] learned that to survive one had to shar e in the process of life.â⬠What does he mean by this? What is the ââ¬Å"process of lifeâ⬠?Anaya means that the elders worked together as family, friends, and neighbors to support each other when times were bad and to share in the bounty when times were good. It was a life that was community-oriented. The process of life is the daily process of living and surviving. They shared good times and hard times. They helped each other through the ââ¬Å"epidemics and personal tragediesâ⬠and they ââ¬Å"shared what little they had when the hot winds burned the land and no rain came.â⬠Rappers, if only they knew what they looked likeâ⬠¦maybe they would stop.

Ap Biology Lab Report Essays
Ap Biology Lab Report Essays Ap Biology Lab Report Paper Ap Biology Lab Report Paper Mitosis is accompanied by cytokines in which the end result is two completely operate cells called daughter cells. There are four phases of mitosis: protease, metaphors, anapest and telephone. Meiosis is a two-part cell division process in organisms that sexually reproduce. Meiosis produces gametes with one half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. There are two stages of meiosis: meiosis I and meiosis II. At the end of the meiotic process, four daughter cells are produced. Each of the resulting daughter cells has one half of the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Mitosis was studied first in this lab. The phases f onion root tips were observed under a microscope. The crossing-over of chromosomes in meiosis was observed by viewing photos. Hypothesis If looking under a 400 power microscope, than it is possible to observe mitosis occurring in whitefish blastula and onion root tips. If crossing-over occurs in meiosis, than the genes do not segregate until meiosis II. Materials and Methods All materials and methods followed based off of lab manual. Results Activity A: Observing Mitosis Enterprise Cells Plant Cell Protease Cells Animal Cell The cellular organelles doubled in number, the DNA replicated, and protein honesties occurred. The chromosomes are not visible and the DNA appears as uncoiled chromatin. Protease Animal Cell The chromatin condensed and the chromosomes became visible. The nucleolus disappeared, and the spindle forms and attaches to the centimeters of the chromosomes. Early and late protease can be seen. In late protease, the chromatin has condensed into chromosomes, the nucleolus is gone, and the nuclear envelope has been removed. Metaphors Cells The nuclear membrane fragmentation is complete and the duplicated chromosomes lined up along the cells equator. Anapest Cells Diploid sets of daughter chromosomes separated and were pushed and pulled toward opposite poles of the cell. This was accomplished by the popularization and differentiation of the misconstrues that helped to form the mitotic spindle. Telephone Cells The nuclear membrane and nucleoli reformed, cytokines is almost done, and the chromosomes uncoiled to chromatin. Daughter Cells The daughter cells formed and constructed a new dividing cell wall between them. Each daughter cell received a copy of the genome of its parents cell. Analysis of Results, Activity A: Observing Mitosis 1. I can infer that the two cells came from the cell a long time ago because they have similar organelles. 2. Two ways that mitosis differs in the cells of animals and higher plants is in cytokines and right before protease. In plant cells, there is a pre-protease right before protease takes place. 3. A) Nuclear envelope disappears in protease; nuclear envelope reappears in telephone B) Mitotic spindle forms in protease; mitotic spindle disappears in telephone C) Chromatin condenses into chromosomes in protease; chromosomes unwind to form chromatin in telephone D) Commentators are at opposite ends of the cell in tappets E) Nucleolus disappears in protease 4. The three sub phases of enterprise are the GIG phase, S phase, and the GO phase. In the GIG phase, cell synthesizes proteins and produces cytoplasm organelles. In the S phase, DNA synthesis occurs, and in the GO phase, the cell beings forming the spindle. 5. Both prokaryotic cell division and eukaryotic cell division replicate their DNA and use the process of cytokines. Activity B: Estimating the Relative Lengths of Mitotic Phases Table 1: Group Count I Number of Cells I I Field I Field 2 | Field 3 | Total 1-3 | Enterprise 152 146 1 57 | 155 | Protease 122 1 25 | 29 76 | Metaphors 116 1 11 191 36 | Anapest 1 5181 51 18 Telephone | 14 | 10 181 32 | I Total 1317 1 Table 2: Class Data I Class Totals I Decimal Fraction of Total Count I Estimated Time Spent in Phase I Enterprise | 582 | . 46 | 13968 | protease | 305 | . 241 7320 | Metaphors | 148 | . 121 3552 Anapest | 65 | . 051 1560 | Telephone | 171 | . 13 | 4104 | Total Cells Counted | 1271 | Analysis of Results, Activity B: Estimating the Relative Lengths of Mitotic Phases Pie Graph 2. Stages of Mitosis Ranked 1) Enterprise 2) Protease 3) Metaphors 4) Anapest 5) Telephone 3. Some phases of mitosis are longer than others because each phase has a different task, and some of the tasks of the phases are harder than others. For example, enterprise takes longer than other phases because the nuclear envelope fragments and the misconstrues attach to the chromosomes. Telephone takes the least amount of time because chromosomes only go to opposite ends of the cell and a nuclear membrane forms. Activity C: Simulating Meiosis Analysis of Results, Activity C: Simulating Meiosis 1. Sixteen combinations of the two chromosomes are possible. 2. Number of chromosome combinations= . There are gametes. 4. There are possible combinations of chromosomes for human possible combinations of chromosomes for the offspring. 5. The relationship of meiosis to variation in populations is that genes are able to move themselves and combine with different sets of genes that arent present in the parent. This causes a higher chance of survival. 6. Three ways that meiosis differs from mitosis are that meiosis occurs in reproductive cells, while mitosis occurs in somatic cells. In meiosis, a mitotic mother cell is always diploid, while in mitosis a mother cell can be haploid or diploid. In meiosis, two divisions of the mother cell causes four meiotic cells, while in mitosis, a single division of the mother cell causes two daughter cells. Activity D: Crossing-Over and Map Units Analysis Results, Activity D: Crossing-Over and Map Units Table 3 I No. Boom ASCII (4:4) | No. FOMCL ASCII or | Total ASCII I %MIMI ASCII (No. Of Ml/Total) I Gene-to Controvert Distance (%Ml/2) I Group Data | 45 65 | 110 | | 29. 5 (30) | 1 . Crossing-over increases genetic variation because when the chromatics exchange sections with each other, they get new combinations of alleles that heir parents had, which causes more chromatics. . I would expect to find more genetic variation in the population of species B because its undergoing sexual reproduction. In sexual reproduction there is more changeability because the new generation has many combinations of the genes of the two parent organisms. 3. I would conclude that there was no occurrence of recombination since the MI ASCII would be a 4:4 ra tio. Discussion My results proved my hypothesis. This is so because by looking through the microscope it was possible to view the stages of mitosis in the onion root tip and he whitefish blastula. The stages of mitosis that were visible were protease, anapest, telephone, enterprise, and metaphors. The time spent in each phase was also figured out. Enterprise was the phase that the cell spends most of its life in. Telephone was the shortest phase. We stimulated the stages of meiosis using red and yellow magnetic beads. Crossing-over in Sardinia was observed by looking at photos. Afterwards, the map units were determined. We discovered that the distance of the gene relative to the controvert in the Sardinia was fifty- nine map units.

The Prefix Hypo and Related Words
The Prefix Hypo and Related Words The Prefix Hypo and Related Words The Prefix Hypo and Related Words By Mark Nichol A recent post listed and defined words with the Greek prefix hyper (meaning ââ¬Å"above,â⬠ââ¬Å"beyond,â⬠or ââ¬Å"overâ⬠). Here, words based on its antonym, hypo-, are the focus. The most common words beginning with hypo include hypodermic (literally, ââ¬Å"under skinâ⬠), an adjective describing injection under the skin or tissue or growths beneath the skin (the word is also employed as a noun, and hypo is a common truncation), and hypothermia (ââ¬Å"under heatâ⬠), the term for abnormally low body temperature. Other medical conditions include hypoglycemia (ââ¬Å"under sugar bloodâ⬠)- colloquially known as ââ¬Å"low blood sugarâ⬠- and hypochondria (ââ¬Å"under cartilageâ⬠), mental depression in which the sufferer imagines physical ailments, so named from the original belief that such feelings originated in the abdominal organs; the term for the pathological state is hypochondriasis. Hypochondriac is both an adjective describing the condition and a noun pertaining to the sufferer. Hypoallergenic means ââ¬Å"unlikely to cause an allergic reaction,â⬠and the hypothalamus is a key part of the brain that regulates automatic processes in the body. Oxygen deficiency is called hypoxia, and hypomania is a mild mania associated with bipolar disorder. (The respective adjectives are hypoxic and hypomanic.) Other well-known words in the hypo family are hypocrisy (ââ¬Å"under decideâ⬠), which evolved in meaning in Greek from ââ¬Å"siftâ⬠to ââ¬Å"play a partâ⬠and now describes actions or attitudes that contradict oneââ¬â¢s stated beliefs or opinions, and hypothesis (ââ¬Å"under propositionâ⬠), which denotes something assumed and taken for granted for the sake of argument; the plural is hypotheses. One who demonstrates hypocrisy is deemed hypocritical and called a hypocrite. The adjectival form for hypothesis is hypothetical, and the verb form is hypothesize. A hypotenuse is the side of a right triangle opposite the right angle. (The root word is the basis of tension and tenuous.) More obscure terms in this group include hypocorism (ââ¬Å"under caressâ⬠), meaning ââ¬Å"pet name,â⬠as in a diminutive like Bobby, a term of endearment such as honey, or baby-talk forms of address such as papa; such words are hypocoristic. One who lives underground is hypogean (the antonym is epigean), and a hypocaust is a chamber for lighting a fire to heat rooms located above. (The root is the same as that seen in holocaust.) A disguised relation is hyphen- literally, ââ¬Å"under one,â⬠because the mark was originally located beneath the words to be connected. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Excerpt of Term Paper on Abortion In studying the problem of when the fetus can be called human, Daniel Callahan in his book on abortion says that there are many answers depending on whether the investigator is a zoologist, an anthropologist or a sociologist, and that all these opinions must be taken into consideration along with the theologian's. There are those who be lieve the beginning of human life should be judged by genetic criteria (if you are conceived by human parents you are instantly human); and those, says Callahan, who believe in developmental criteria (some no one has decided how much development is required before a fetus can be called human); and those who would measure what is human with social criteria by measuring the social consequences of the decision. They say that since life is present in the sperm and egg before conception it is useless to say human life begins at any one point. They also point to the fact that people do not feel the same way emotionally toward an embryo or fetus as they do toward a living child. It is their view that since it is a human decision, social dilemmas must be taken into account. And there is a question of value, says Callahan. "While we may say that human life 'begins' at x point in the developmental process, we may not feel compelled to say that it is necessarily to be fully valued or fully protected at that point." But the question should not be, some say, whether or not the fetus is human, but whether the mother wants the child. It has been argued that the social evils involved in forced pregnancy against the will of the mother are worse than the possible evil of destroying the fetus. Critics of this have suggested that allowing a person the right to decide whether to grant human life to the fetus might encourage other such acts as mercy killing in the case of an incurably ill or very old person, infanticide in a case where there is mental or physical deformity, or a return of the gas chamber for criminals. And they have suggested also that if abortion on demand were allowed, if a woman knew she could get rid of the unborn child if she wanted to, it might encourage women to be freer, more promiscuous in their sexual relations. Not only theologians, but doctors are faced with moral, medical and legal dilemmas. Individual report 1 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Individual report 1 - Essay Example I also looked at the systems for supporting decision making, and in particular, I looked the DSS system and how it is used in the company. This information was retrieved from prior reviewed books and from the internet. The main challenge faced throughout the research period is getting time to go through the books in order to get the information. With the tight schedule at the University, it was somewhat challenging to go through all the available books that are related to this study. This would have further improved on the report. Another challenge that I faced when writing the report is; not knowing where to begin from. This is because, there is a lot of information on the topic and picking out the most crucial and relevant information was giving me some challenges. It was crucial that I do not lose focus in the specific area of attention in order to make sure that the whole report has a clear flow of ideas so that the readers do not get confused. In future I plan to reduce and even overcome these challenges by taking a number of steps. To begin with, proper planning will be crucial in the success of any future project. This is by allocating a time in a day to complete a section at a time. This will help me be able to balance all my class assignments. The second step of overcoming the challenges is to read and understand the requirements of an assignment. This will make sure that when I gather information, I do so with an aim of getting certain information. This will save on time and will reduce the risk of getting confused. This is because, instead of gathering a pool of general information about a topic, I will be able to only gather information that is relevant to the question asked under a topic. Finally, time management will be crucial; this is by starting on an assignment immediately other than assuming that there is plenty of time to do it. This will help me deal with any unexpected issue that may arise while working o n a paper. This

Why We Crave Horror Movies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Why We Crave Horror Movies - Essay Example This is because they contain vampires, serial killers, zombies as well as werewolves leading to a cinematic blood bath. In as much as people, justify reasons for the continuous taste of horror movies there various underlying concerns that drive people to watch horror movies. ââ¬Å"To show that we can, that we are not afraid, that we cab ride this roller coaster.â⬠This forms the first reason why most people engage in horror movies. From this perspective, the continuous appetite for horror movies gets attributed to the fact that people want to overcome their fears and prove their capacity to the whole society. For instance, according to Stephen king, ââ¬Å"It is true that the mythic ââ¬Å"fairy-taleâ⬠horror film intends to take away the shades of grey. In addition, horror movies provide psychic belief to people a factor that acts as, a key driver to watch more movies. Subsequently, horror movies, ââ¬Å"may allow our emotions a free rein... Or no rein at allâ⬠. ... It is from this perspective that people continue to watch horror movies despite the fears they experience. For example, Dawn of the dead is a horrific movie, which a normal person cannot watch; however, it forms one of the movies people scramble to watch. ââ¬Å"Horror movies offer their teenage male viewers an illicit opportunity to revel in their feminine side. Contesting the claim that horror encourages a sadistic male gazeâ⬠it is in this regards that horror movies get popularity by teenage population. The teens as they call themselves like competition and comparison for watching movies. In addition, they like living a life up-to-date with current events leading to events of life transforming behaviors. Based on this reason, an increasing population gets realized towards watching horror movies. As an evidence, to support the argument, teens dress according to horror superstars with the sole purpose of escaping the villain and fitting into the society of horror movie harlequi ns. Subsequently, ââ¬Å"horror movies are due not to whatever psychic substratum the monster represents, but rather to the peculiar curiosity it inspires.â⬠Suspense as literature professionals would call it, is an indispensable device used by movie directors, which keep viewers with curiosity and urge for more. Horror movies are quite threatening; however, viewers always have the quench to know what would happen after killing of a person or horrific animal. Considering the change in movie production, where movie directors produce series movies; suspense continues to appear among viewers. The camera trick in horror movies remains another reason why a glamorous number of people continue to appear in horror scenes. This is because the tricks make the
